Update from Bernabi

October 4, 2018

Greeting from Bernabi where everyone is getting ready for Curriculum Night/Open House!  Tonight you will have the opportunity to hear from the most important people at school, your children’s teachers!  Thank you in advance for following the schedule I’ve sent home and for touching base with all of the adults in this building who impact your children’s education—it’s truly a team effort!  Oh, and thanks for forgiving my error—the book fair will be in our south hallway, not the gym!

In other news, did you know that Bernabi Elementary has (always had!) a shared decision making team?  It is based on faculty and staff elections, district-level appointments and committee selection of parents.  This Building Planning Team (BPT) is charged each year with bringing the district’s mission, vision and “big rocks” to fruition within our school.  Between a variety of stakeholders from our faculty, staff and administration along with this year’s parent representative, Mr. Ben Hays, the team has successfully drafted, communicated and earned building-based voter approval on this year’s plan of action!

Based on the district’s five “big rocks,” or focal points for the 2018-2019 school year, this year’s building plan details how Bernabi faculty, staff, principal, students and parents can work together to learn about, implement and find success with:

·        Digital conversion/blended learning

·        Innovation/empowerment

·        Confidence/culture

·        Assessment

·        Wellness/safety

If you would like more information about this year’s plan, action steps and how you can provide support, please contact your parent representative, Mr. Ben Hays at [email protected]  You can also view the plan in its entirety by clicking here.

A few additional reminders:

  • Next week is National Safety Week.  Remember EDITH?  It’s still a thing—an important one!  A brochure and questionnaire should be making their way home to you no later than Tuesday of next week with more information—thank you in advance for having important discussions with your kiddos about safety!
  • Tomorrow, Friday, October 5, is a district-wide conference day.  While there is no school for students, your Bernabi team will be here working hard to provide your children with the greatest learning experiences imaginable!

Looking forward to seeing you all tonight at 6:00 pm and don’t forget to bring a previously loved book and download a QR code scanner to your smart phone!

Sincerely,

David Caiazza
Principal
