Principal's Message

Thursday, January 26, 2023

Good afternoon Bernabi families!  I have two quick notes today—that’s it!

One final reminder that tomorrow, Friday, January 27 is a half-day for all students UPK – 12.

For students in grades K-5: While breakfast will remain available as normal, students will not be served lunch and they will not have specials on this day.  With respect to dismissal, those who are being picked up will be called down to the cafeteria beginning at 11:40 am, and those taking the bus will be dismissed shortly after with buses rolling away from the building and on their way home at 12:00 pm.  If you are planning on picking up your child on this half-day, please send in a note ahead of time so that we can prepare for the busiest dismissal of the year, and we will open our doors to have you sign your child out at 11:30 am.  As is our normal daily practice, no bus passes will be issued, so unless we have a pick up note, your child will take his/her normal bus home.  Thanks in advance for your support with this half-day schedule and tune into teacher updates to hear more about what our focus on CRSE will look like on this day!

For our UPK students and families: students will follow their regular dismissal routine, where designated pick-up persons can arrive at exit 20 (same doorway as always) around 11:15 for dismissal at 11:20.

Instructionally, our entire staff will be working together on the morning of the 27th to offer students a number of learning experiences aligned to our common district and building goal of Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education (CRSE).  While each grade level will be using developmentally appropriate texts supported by engaging dialogue and activities, all students will be engaging in a common identity activity that will bring us back to our author visit from Susan Verde and her book: I am Me, and its theme of what makes us each special and unique!

Valentine’s Day: while I hope this upcoming holiday provides our students with an experience to exchange cards and kindnesses, a naturally sweet holiday doesn’t need anything extra!  In all sincerity, I want to thank you in advance for remembering that in support of allergy awareness, Spencerport’s elementary schools utilize food-free celebrations for all holidays and birthdays.  If you happen to miss this note and purchase Valentines for your student that contain candy, the cards would make their way to classmates but the candy will be collected and returned home.  Thank you for sharing in our commitment to keep all students safe and healthy.

Thanks for reading!
