We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Our parents, staff and community have clearly communicated to us that mental health and student behavior must be a priority in our work. Building our social-emotional learning skills has been an integral part of this effort, and last fall, we asked your child to reflect on their own experiences and approaches to learning via an online survey. We will be giving this survey again on June 15, 2023. The survey shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete. The SEL student survey data will be particularly helpful to ensure that the social and emotional learning actions are impactful, and decide whether to continue or change what we are doing. We are reflecting on our strengths and areas for growth based on the aggregate data, and will be using this to inform initiatives we will be putting into place in the future.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential, similar to other academic or attendance data.
After we have collected student responses, school personnel will collaborate on the following items:
- What are ways we can innovate to be more effective and equitable?
- Does the data suggest that any of our practices are ineffective? How could they be changed?
- What does this data make us think about in terms of our practice? About teaching and learning in general.
If you have any questions about this survey, please contact our Director of Student Services, Tim O'Connor, at (585) 349-5151 or [email protected]. If you wish not to have your child take this survey, please contact me directly.
As we approach end of year celebrations, I need to remind families that Bernabi students will not be permitted to leave their classrooms to attend siblings’ celebrations. In addition to not being able to have enough seats for siblings of 60+ students, trying to call into classrooms who are either teaching and learning or outside for recess is a cumbersome task and we are unable to meet these requests. That said, we hope that you get to enjoy these special events:
- Pre-K: Friday, June 16, 12:00 pm (outside) and please refer to Mrs. Angie’s communication for details on where to park and where to go!
- Kindergarten Celebration: Tuesday, June 13, 2:30 pm (outside) and please refer to kindergarten teachers’ communication for more details on where to park and where to go!
- 5th Grade Moving Up Day: Tuesday, June 13, 10:00 am (in our gymnasium) and please refer to 5th grade teachers’ communication for more details on what time to arrive!
Last but not least, a few reminders for additional end of year activities:
- Red Wings Night: Friday, June 2: Click here for all the details and for tickets! Red Wings June 2.PNG
- Talent show: Bernabi’s annual showcase of talent is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6 at 7:00 pm.

- Field Day: Mark your calendars for Monday, June 12, and please note that this is a change from our originally published date. Parents are welcome to attend, but please know that we will be directing folks around the west side of the building to access the outdoor fields from behind the school. There will be no need to sign into the building if you are visiting this event.
- 9:30 - 10:30: 2nd and 3rd grades
- 10:45 - 11:45: 4th and 5th grades
- 1:00 - 2:00: UPK, K and 1st grades
- Color Connection Day: Please also move our last Color Connection date to Monday, June 12 so that our students are color-coded for Field Day!
- Flag Day: We will be holding a mini concert on the morning of Wednesday, June 14 in honor of this National day! Parents of performers are invited to attend! We will also honor this month’s character trait winners, and parents of those students will also get an invite!
That’s all and that’s plenty—have a great weekend!
