Update from Bernabi

Good afternoon Bernabi!
This is a special bulletin for our K-2 students and parents with a few general
reminders for all!
As your children will likely
tell you, today we implemented a brand new arrival procedure down in the west
half of the building. K-2 students arriving by bus will no longer
walk around to the west side entrance. Instead, our bus drivers, faculty,
staff and student safeties are redirecting and supporting this group of
students in entering our school through the main entrance where our greeter is
positioned.
As you know from my e-news
updates throughout the year, I have long been concerned about the safety of
students and parents around the west side of the building, and have tried a few
things to eliminate this from being a parent drop-off site. While we have
a designated drop-off loop on the east side of the building between here and
Canal View, the west entrance has never been meant for parent drop off as
parking and maneuvering children is hazardous due to high volumes of traffic,
numerous blind spots and unfortunately high speeds. Therefore, we have
made the decision to close this entrance for the remainder of the school year
as a pilot to changing how students enter the building.
In short, there is no change
for students in grades 3-5 arriving by bus, and those in grades K-2 arriving by
bus will be supported in entering through the main/front entrance from now
through the end of the school year. For those students being dropped off,
regardless of grade level, parents can continue to use the east side drop off
loop between 8:45 and 8:55 am, or if walking your children in, can do so
through the main/front entrance during that same window of time.
I will post signs on our west
side entrance door tonight in preparation for anyone who has not had the
opportunity to read this update. Thank you in advance for supporting this
change in procedure and for sharing my concern for the safety of our students,
parents and all community members.
Sincerely,
David Caiazza
Principal
