Greetings from Bernabi where
I can say with all sincerity, we have had the single greatest start to any year
in my entire career! When our students walk into those doors, full of excitement
and donning those beautiful smiles, the feeling around our school is like no
other! I have spent a majority of my time this week with students;
visiting classrooms, hanging out in our hallways and eating lunch in our
cafeteria and I am so impressed with how quickly they shifted into school mode,
even our newest kindergarten friends who are off to an incredible start!
Starting today and carrying into next week, Mrs. Brien, our school
psychologist, Mr. Shufelt, our school counselor and I will be meeting with all
students by grade level to ensure everyone knows our school-wide expectations
and feels supported in exceeding those expectations each and every day!
I wanted to take a moment to
thank each of you, my Bernabi families, for the commitment, collaboration and
partnership you continue to provide to Bernabi as we work together to provide
the best environment possible for your children to learn, love and grow.
It has been so wonderful to see so many of you over the last few weeks at the many
events we planned to ensure a smooth transition into the school year, and I
hope to continue to see you all throughout the year.
That said, I wanted to remind
you of the district’s refined greeter protocols for all visitors. While
we hope to get to know many of you by face and name, we are asking all visitors
to come prepared with a government issued ID. Knowing you may be asked,
please have this ready upon arrival. It will also help to know the name
of your children’s teachers, as we are asking all faculty to inform our greeter
of anticipated guests in advance. If you know you are coming to school
for any reason, it will enhance efficiency and security if you could call
ahead. Our greeters, Mrs. Sue Gary and Mrs. Spencer can be reached at 349-5413.
As for dismissal, please remember that we close our main entrance at 3:15 each
day and ask that you enter through our cafeteria where Mrs. Gary is positioned
until dismissal is complete. Thank you, also, for remember to use our
brightly painted crosswalks at all times. My faculty and staff have been
asked to address anyone walking around or through our buses and redirect them
to our crosswalks—thanks for your help with this!
For morning drop offs, please
also remember that we offer two options: regardless of grade level, parents can
continue to use the east side drop off loop between 8:45 and 8:55 am, or if
walking your children in, can do so through the main/front entrance during that
same window of time. All doors, which are supervised by adults during arrival,
will be closed and locked at 8:55 promptly, after which time you would need to
walk your child into the front entrance and sign him/her in to school
late.
As we look ahead to the
coming weeks, I wanted to share a few important dates with you in case you
haven’t written them down yet!
