Greetings from Bernabi where I would like to start my February break update with a sincere thank you for your support with the new Raptor Visitor Management System.  Everyone has been great about having their IDs out and ready for scanning and who doesn’t love walking around wearing a sticker with their least favorite picture on it?!  All jokes aside, we appreciate the community-wide commitment to safety and if you haven’t already heard, the district is also working closely with the Ogden Police Department to offer a more frequent presence within our schools, so if you see Chief Mears or any of his officers hanging around Bernabi, know that this is by design!

When we return from break we will be putting the final touches on our biggest week of the year: Bernabi Reads!  For 2019 we moved this annual initiative out of June to coincide with the national initiative known as Read Across America, which is scheduled for March 4 – 8.  Be on the lookout for more information coming home in your child’s book bag and from your child’s classroom teachers including this year’s theme, guest readers, one school one book, a field trip to the middle school, an assembly and so much more!  Looking for a way to help make this experience even better?  We could really use support with our chalk door designs, so if you are at all artistically inclined, reach out to Kathy Wilson by clicking here and let her know when you might be available to come in and volunteer your time and talents!

A reminder for parents of our K-2 students: you should have received a letter earlier this month about the Bivona Child Safety Matters curriculum.  These lessons were presented to the community earlier this year (I was there!) and received tremendous support.  Our 3-5 students received these lessons in the fall and they were also well-received by both students and teachers.  If you are interested in learning more about these lesson, please click here for an overview.

In my e-news update from January 25, I shared Bernabi's video entry (Because of Winn Dixie) to this year's Newbery film contest, and I am now proud to announce that it has been selected to be included in the Rochester Film Festival on March 17!  Congratulations to our students--I can't wait to enjoy this experience with you!

That's all for now!  Stay safe and warm and enjoy the extra time with your children this week!

Sincerely,

David Caiazza
