Raptor visitor check-in system
Published on Jan 25, 2019 15:33

Good afternoon,

As a follow up to Mr. Caiazza’s enews on Jan. 11, this is an important reminder that beginning Jan. 28, Bernabi Elementary School will begin using a new security check-in system to screen visitors, contractors and volunteers. Our greeters must request identification from EVERY visitor to populate this database, so please help us to expedite this entry by always bringing a driver’s license.

If you have visited other school districts across Monroe County, you may already be familiar with the check-in system known as Raptor. If you are unfamiliar with the system, here is how it works. Raptor:

• scans a visitor’s identification (driver’s license);
• within seconds, checks the name and date of birth for sex offenders from a national database and custom alerts entered by the school/district; and once approved,
• issues a badge sticker with the visitor’s name and photo.

This new system provides our school with a quick and efficient way to enhance security, and confirm who is in our building at all times. Once the system populates with your license/ID, our greeters may approve familiar or frequent visitors manually and might not need you to show your identification.

For large events/assemblies, Bernabi will continue to have Mr. Caiazza, faculty, aides, and security personnel on-hand to expedite safe entry and dismissal. This goal is consistent with our existing practice to get visitors into a secured area as quickly as possible, and therefore Raptor will not be used. A visitor on site for another purpose will still need to be processed through Raptor.

Finally, we ask for your patience and understanding as we pilot this at Bernabi and our District Office building. As with any new software system, we anticipate learning from this implementation and making any necessary adjustments along the way. Our remaining schools will be receiving the Raptor system in the next few months. In the meantime, your feedback is always appreciated.

Thank you again for your partnership in helping us keep our schools safe.
